Mogadishu, November 30, 2025 – A five-day conference on climate finance in Somalia was held in Mogadishu, led by Dr. Ndoye and organized by the National Climate Change Box (NCF). The event brought together experts, policymakers, and financial stakeholders to discuss solutions to the country's climate challenges.

Assessment of Climate Finance Needs

The conference enabled an analysis of Somalia's climate finance needs and emphasized the importance of mobilizing local and international resources. Participants notably discussed financial innovation with the Somali banking association.

The NCF presented a special program to enhance local banks' access to climate-related financing, to facilitate the implementation of sustainable national projects.

International Financing Opportunities

Representatives from the Ministry of Finance, the Somalia Development and Reconstruction Bank (SDRB), and the NCF shared processes for sourcing climate finance and opportunities provided by international instruments such as:

• Green Climate Fund (GCF)

These initiatives aim to support concrete projects to combat climate change and strengthen the country's resilience.

Significance for the Somali Government

"This conference provides a solid foundation for the Somali government to directly finance climate initiatives in line with evolving governmental systems," said Liban Obsiye, Executive Director of the NCF.
