From June 16 to 20, 2025, G2P had the honor of leading a strategic workshop in Lomé (Togo) on formulating funding requests to the Global Environment Facility (GEF). Organized within the framework of the WACA (West Africa Coastal Areas) program and in partnership with the Ministry of Environment and Forest Resources (MERF), this workshop marked a key step in strengthening the capacity of national institutions regarding climate mechanisms.

Bringing together about thirty participants, including 10 women, from ministries, universities, and technical structures, the session alternated between conceptual presentations, practical exercises, and personalized support on GEF tools. The innovative pedagogical approach combined flipped classrooms, subgroup work, and the use of the PM Training Hub e-learning platform developed by G2P.

At the end of the week, participants laid the groundwork for an ambitious “WACA II” program, structured around eight sub-projects focusing on maritime governance, the blue economy, and marine science. A finalization roadmap was adopted to prepare for the submission of a consolidated concept note.

This workshop illustrates G2P’s commitment to supporting states and their partners in accessing international climate finance, through approaches that are technical, inclusive, and rooted in national realities. A next session is already in preparation to further develop the operational setup of the identified projects.
