Senior Financial Expert – Debt-for-Nature Swaps

Job Description:

As part of the expansion of its activities in sustainable finance and innovative financing instruments, G2P is looking for a senior financial expert with proven experience in the structuring and implementation of debt-for-nature swap mechanisms, particularly in developing or emerging countries.

The mission will involve providing technical support to governments, regional banks, or donors in designing debt relief programs backed by measurable environmental commitments (climate, biodiversity, forests, coastal areas, etc.).


Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and structure debt-for-nature swap operations (bilateral or via secondary markets)
  • Analyze public debt profiles and opportunities for optimization via green conversion
  • Develop technical notes, roadmaps, and dialogue documents with creditors
  • Identify sources of concessional financing that can support transactions (GCF, GEF, bilateral donors, etc.)
  • Contribute to defining post-operation monitoring, transparency, and governance mechanisms
  • Support states in negotiations with donors and creditors
  • Strengthen the capacity of stakeholders on debt-for-nature mechanisms and associated international standards

Desired Profile:

  • Master’s degree or higher in finance, economics, public policy, or a related field
  • At least 10 years of professional experience in public finance, sovereign debt, financial structuring, or climate finance
  • In-depth knowledge of debt-for-nature swap mechanisms, debt markets, and hybrid instruments (blended finance)
  • Experience collaborating with ministries of finance, central banks, international financial institutions, or environmental funds
  • Excellent writing, synthesis, and presentation skills
  • Experience in African contexts or middle-income countries (an asset)
