Job Description:
As part of its climate finance activities, G2P is looking for a carbon credit expert to support the identification, structuring, and monitoring of projects eligible for voluntary or regulatory carbon offset mechanisms. The consultant will contribute to the development of carbon strategies, project certification, and capacity building for public and private stakeholders in this field.
Key Responsibilities:
- Identify opportunities for carbon credit generation in the agriculture, forestry (REDD+), energy, waste, transport, etc. sectors.
- Support the structuring of projects eligible for voluntary (Verra/VCS, Gold Standard) or regulated carbon markets.
- Develop or supervise the drafting of necessary documents: PIN, PDD, MRV, monitoring plans, etc.
- Advise on the choice of standards, methodologies, and certification partners.
- Analyze carbon profitability and risks related to market entry (price scenarios, potential buyers, co-benefits).
- Contribute to the establishment of national carbon strategies (MRV framework, registries, taxation).
- Train stakeholders on carbon finance mechanisms (workshops, manuals, technical training).
Desired Profile:
- Master’s degree or higher in environment, engineering, climate economics, or related disciplines.
- Significant professional experience (minimum 7 to 10 years) in carbon project development (design, registration, certification).
- Proficiency in voluntary market standards (Verra, Gold Standard, Plan Vivo) and/or regulatory market standards (CDM, Article 6).
- Good understanding of climate funder requirements (GCF, GEF, BF, etc.).
- Skills in carbon modeling, MRV tools, and calculation of avoided emissions.
- Experience in projects in Africa (forestry, regenerative agriculture, clean energy) is highly valued.
- Excellent writing skills, technical rigor, autonomy.
